Dear {{firstname}},

We regret to inform you that our event at Estoril may be at risk.

Yesterday, we received a request from the catering service at the Estoril Circuit, asking how many riders would attend on Thursday and Friday so they could prepare sufficient food and drinks. One hour after we replied that we would be 150, we received a WhatsApp message from the same catering service claiming that our event had been cancelled.

When contacting the circuit, we received an e-mail yesterday afternoon from the Circuit’s General Manager (Anne de Camara), who wrote: “I know that the Management is analyzing the case and I’m waiting for a reply at any time.” It may seem strange that the General Manager (with 25 years of service) herself is waiting for an answer from “the management”. The circuit is apparently now owned by the city, and reportedly two managers based at Lisbon City Hall are involved.

Since then, we have still not received any information from the General Manager about whether our event will take place or not, and if not, what the issue is. Since late morning, we have repeatedly tried to call the circuit, but nobody answers anymore. Our event therefore seems possibly cancelled, without us ever having been officially informed.

Tomorrow morning shortly after 9 a.m., we – Team EYBIS – will arrive at Lisbon airport. The truck with several dozen bikes and our equipment will arrive shortly after. We are very aware that many of you have already paid for flights, rental cars, hotel rooms, etc. (just like we have ourselves). We also know that many of you are on the road with motorhomes and bikes on trailers, and that we may not even be allowed in.

Personally, I am overwhelmed with anger, disappointment and incomprehension. The fact that there is not even the respect to inform us about what is going on, nor any official decision being communicated, is simply unacceptable.

At this moment, we can only inform you of what we currently know (which is nothing), except that for reasons entirely unrelated to us, the situation looks very bad. As soon as we receive any news, we will communicate it immediately.

With kind regards,

Frank - Team EYBIS
